ADAS Calibration for Smart models

Your Smart #1 flashing a forward collision warning after a windscreen swap? That's the Mobileye EyeQ5 camera losing its reference point. Smart Pilot Assist won't function until the system is reset and re-aimed. We calibrate it in under 90 minutes, from £199.

Smart ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific Smart model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Smart ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go - front radar behind the lower grille. Needs recalibration after any bumper repair, respray, or front-end collision. Without it, the car won't maintain distance in traffic.
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) - runs on dual Mobileye EyeQ5 processors using the forward-facing camera. Windscreen replacement is the top trigger. A misaligned camera means AEB either brakes too late or not at all.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) - camera-based, shares the same Mobileye unit as AEB. If AEB needs calibration, LKA does too. You can't calibrate one without the other.
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) - rear-quarter radar sensors in the bumper corners. Rear-end shunts and bumper replacements knock these out of alignment. The car stops warning you about vehicles in adjacent lanes.

Smart's current models sit on Geely's SEA platform - the same architecture underpinning Volvo, Polestar, Lynk and Co, and Lotus Eletre. That shared platform means similar sensor mounting points and calibration procedures across these brands. But Smart uses Mobileye's EyeQ5 dual-chip setup where most SEA siblings use different vision processors, so the calibration targets and software routines are Smart-specific.

The Brand That Rebooted - Why Smart Calibration Confuses Everyone

Smart used to make tiny city cars with no ADAS to speak of. The old ForTwo and ForFour had basic ABS and maybe rear parking sensors. No cameras. No radar. Nothing to calibrate.

Then Geely took over, and Smart became something completely different. The #1 and #3 are mid-size SUVs packed with Mobileye SuperVision hardware. Two EyeQ5 chips. Eleven cameras. Five radar units. The jump from "no ADAS" to "full Level 2+ autonomy" happened in a single model generation.

This creates a real problem for owners and repair shops. Search "Smart calibration" and half the results are about the old ForTwo. Garages that serviced the old cars often don't realise the new ones need post-repair calibration at all. We've seen #1 owners told by their local garage that "Smart doesn't have ADAS" - because the mechanic's reference point is a 2015 ForTwo, not a 2023 #1.

The other confusion is the Mercedes connection. Smart was a Mercedes brand until 2020. Some owners assume Mercedes dealers handle calibration for new Smarts. They don't. The new Smart shares nothing with Mercedes - it's Geely engineering, Mobileye vision, and Smart-specific software. Mercedes diagnostic tools won't even connect to a Smart #1.

Mobileye SuperVision and OTA Updates - What Owners Miss

Smart's ADAS runs on Mobileye's SuperVision platform. That's not a single sensor - it's a full perception stack with two EyeQ5 system-on-chips processing data from cameras and radar simultaneously. The system handles everything from AEB to highway pilot assist.

Smart pushes over-the-air updates to the ADAS software. That sounds convenient, but it creates a calibration trap. An OTA update can change how the system interprets sensor data. If your camera was borderline aligned before the update, the new software tolerances might push it out of spec. Owners report ADAS warning lights appearing after updates with no physical event triggering them.

The other issue is that OTA updates can reset calibration parameters. A windscreen replacement done three months ago might have been calibrated correctly at the time, but a subsequent software update invalidated that calibration. The owner doesn't connect the dots because the warning appears weeks after the glass work.

Static calibration using manufacturer-specified targets is the only way to confirm alignment after an update. A quick dynamic road test won't catch subtle misalignment that the updated software now flags.

Why Smart Owners Choose ADAS Line

  • SEA platform specialists - we calibrate across the Geely Group range including Polestar and Lotus, so we know the shared architecture and where Smart's setup differs.
  • 60-70% less than dealer pricing - Smart dealers quote £500-£800 for camera calibration. We start at £199 for the same result with the same targets.
  • IMI-certified technicians - every calibration follows manufacturer procedures and comes with a calibration certificate for your records and insurance.
  • 70+ workshops across the UK - find a location near you rather than driving to the nearest Smart dealer, which could be 50 miles away given the brand's small dealer network.
  • Post-OTA recalibration - if an update triggered your warning light, we diagnose whether recalibration is needed before you pay for unnecessary work.

Smart Models We Cover

Smart #1AEB, ACC, LKA, BSD, Rear Cross Traffic AlertWindscreen replacement£199
Smart #3AEB, ACC, LKA, BSD, Rear Cross Traffic AlertWindscreen replacement£199

We also cover the older Smart EQ ForTwo, ForFour, and ForTwo models for any basic sensor diagnostics, though these older vehicles typically don't carry ADAS systems that require calibration.

How Smart ADAS Calibration Works

  1. Get a quote - tell us your Smart model, year, and what triggered the issue. Windscreen replacements and front bumper repairs are the two most common reasons Smart owners contact us.
  2. Book your appointment - camera calibration takes 60-90 minutes. Radar recalibration or full system resets involving both camera and radar run 90-120 minutes.
  3. Drive away calibrated - your Smart leaves with every ADAS system verified and a calibration certificate. IMI-certified work that meets manufacturer specs.

Smart dealers in the UK charge £500-£800 for windscreen camera calibration alone. The brand's small dealer network means long wait times too - some owners report 2-3 week waits for a calibration slot. Our pricing starts at £199 with same-week availability at most locations.

Smart ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your Smart

Yes. The Smart #1's forward-facing camera sits behind the windscreen and runs on a Mobileye EyeQ5 processor. Removing the glass moves the camera mounting point. Without recalibration, AEB, LKA, and ACC won't work correctly. Autoglass and other glass companies should flag this at the time of fitting.
