Do not rely on the assistance while it is unavailable
Keep control of braking, steering and following distance yourself. This warning alone cannot establish that the vehicle is safe to drive. If you also have a brake or steering warning, abnormal braking or collision damage, stop somewhere safe and obtain professional advice before continuing.
Match the exact warning first
Ford uses several related messages. The distinction helps you decide between an owner check and a workshop inspection.
Ford's Ranger manual treats this wording as a system fault requiring prompt inspection. It does not identify a failed part. Save a photograph while parked and note any other warnings, recent repairs and whether the message returns.
Obstruction or difficult weather can reduce sensor visibility. Park safely, then use your vehicle's manual to locate the camera viewing area and any fitted radar. Remove surface dirt as instructed; do not dismantle sensor housings. If the warning persists in clear conditions, arrange a check.
Clean the outside of the windscreen in the camera's viewing area. This visibility message differs from a camera malfunction. Avoid removing camera trim or attempting to adjust the unit.
The Focus manual calls for a prompt vehicle check. Cleaning alone is not the prescribed response to this message. Tell the workshop if lane keeping, traffic-sign or lighting warnings appeared too; record the wording without assuming that every warning needs a separate calibration.
What changed before the warning appeared?
After a windscreen replacement, ask the fitter for the job sheet and any completed calibration report. A missing report is a reason to clarify what was done, not proof that the camera is faulty. Give the centre the repair date, whether the camera itself was replaced and any failed-calibration results. The windscreen calibration guide covers that repair in more detail.
After front-end damage or repairs, mention the bumper, grille, camera or radar work individually. Ford's Ranger manual identifies front-end impact as a reason to check radar coverage where radar is fitted. Do not try to straighten a sensor bracket yourself.
If nothing has been repaired, the warning still deserves attention. Its wording and the diagnostic findings determine the next step. Booking calibration solely because a warning exists can leave the actual problem unresolved.
Camera, radar or both?
There is no single sensor layout for every Ford. The UK Transit Custom manual for vehicles built from 12 June to 22 October 2023 describes a windscreen camera and, on versions with adaptive cruise control, additional radar sensors. The Ranger manual also qualifies radar as equipment-dependent. Those examples do not establish the equipment on another year or model.
Supply the registration, model and exact message so coverage can be checked for the vehicle. For a Transit or Transit Custom, include the van's variant and any body conversion. The procedure and appointment requirements must be confirmed for that vehicle; a universal static calibration or road-driving routine is not a reliable prescription.
A quote for the work the checks identify
When diagnosis is needed, the centre confirms the proposed check before booking. A diagnostic pre-scan is £54 inc VAT (£45 +VAT). A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemised separately.
If the findings call for basic calibration, a front camera is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT); a front radar is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). These are separate systems, not a charge for each dashboard message. Calibration runs to full manufacturer specification.
Replacing a module is a different scope. The rate card's following-replacement line is coding, with calibration itemised separately. It is not an all-in price for parts, diagnosis and repair. Let the centre confirm which services apply and provide the complete written quote before committing.
Certificate to manufacturer tolerances, the same standard dealers issue. Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
Ford calibration prices
The shared rate card lists work by system. The centre confirms which lines apply to your Ford; a warning message is not a diagnosis or a reason to book every line.
Calibration — per system
Coding a replaced part to your vehicle
- When your job needs a diagnostic pre-scan, it's £54 inc VAT (£45 +VAT), itemised separately. It reads available fault information; finding the cause may require further investigation. A post-scan is a separate operation.
- Two or more systems in one visit: the highest-priced system is full price, each additional system is 35% off at a centre. Scans aren't part of the discount. Front camera and front radar together come to £267.30 inc VAT (£222.75 +VAT).
- Replacement configuration and calibration are different operations. The work required depends on the vehicle and what the installer has already completed. Configuration prices do not include supplying or fitting a replacement part, or an automatic calibration bundle.
- Unsuccessful work, further investigation or a return visit may carry charges, including at a service centre. The appointment terms and written quote set out the work and applicable charges before booking.
- Mobile calibration is available for garages and bodyshops with workshop conditions. Ask us.
Ford Pre-Collision Assist questions
No. The message reports an unavailable system, not a confirmed failed camera. Check whether it also says the sensor is blocked, and give the workshop the complete wording. A replacement decision needs diagnosis; a warning on its own is not enough to choose a part.
At a service centre, front camera calibration is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). Front radar calibration is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). A diagnostic pre-scan, when required, is separate at £54 inc VAT (£45 +VAT). These are service rates, not a fixed price to cure every Pre-Collision Assist warning. Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
Ask whether calibration was completed, which system was checked and whether you can have the report. Tell them if the message appeared immediately or only later. The repair history and any fault readings should be reviewed before repeating work. Where a front camera basic calibration is required, the centre rate is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT); diagnosis and other required work are additional.
No. In the rate card, the front-camera following-replacement coding line is £229.20 inc VAT (£191 +VAT). Front camera basic calibration is a separate line at £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). These individual rates are not an all-in replacement total and do not include a new camera. The centre must itemise the services, any applicable discount and any diagnostic work in the written quote.
Send the registration, van variant, exact warning and repair history so we can confirm coverage with a suitable centre. Do not assume the sensor equipment or procedure from another Ford applies. If the accepted job is front camera basic calibration, its centre rate is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT); other required services are quoted separately.
No. A cleared dashboard is not evidence that the cause has been corrected. Keep the original messages and any scan report, and ask for the findings and outcome of the work. If the warning returns, report the circumstances rather than repeatedly clearing it or assuming another calibration is the answer.
