Front radar coding after replacement. £232.80 including VAT.

A replacement front radar may need coding to configure it for your car. That is different from calibrating its alignment. Whether the part is new or used, the required work depends on compatibility, installation and any setup already completed.

  • Centre price for front-radar replacement setup.
  • Calibration is a separate service where required.
  • Replacement parts, fitting, repairs and diagnosis are not included.

How do we reach you?

Helps us match you to your nearest centre and verify it's you when we call.

Tell us what was replaced and what the installer has already done.

Fitting the radar is not the whole job

Front radar helps systems such as adaptive cruise control judge what is ahead. A replacement must be suitable for the car, correctly installed and set up according to its manufacturer's procedure. Plugging it in does not establish that those steps are complete.

Coding configures the replacement for the vehicle. Calibration establishes its alignment or reference. Neither repairs damaged wiring or a bent bracket, and clearing a warning is not proof that the repair is finished.

Until the fault has been assessed, do not rely on the affected assistance functions. Follow your handbook's warning guidance.

Which situation sounds like yours?

The work already completed matters as much as the warning on the dashboard.

  • A new radar has been fitted

A new part may still need vehicle-specific configuration and calibration. Include the installer's report so completed work can be distinguished from the setup still needed.

  • You have fitted a used radar

A matching connector or similar appearance does not prove compatibility. The part details and existing findings matter; coding cannot guarantee that a used unit will work in your car.

  • The radar is already coded

Your garage may have completed configuration but lack calibration equipment. Say that in your enquiry: a calibration-only requirement is different from replacement-module coding.

Coding and calibration prices

These are separate centre services, not an automatic two-part package. The quote depends on the vehicle and the work still required.

Parts, fitting, diagnosis and physical repairs are separate. A software update or flash-programming job is not automatically included in replacement setup. Unsuccessful work or another visit may carry charges.

How replacement setup is approached

  1. 1

    Identify the car and part

Your registration, repair history and available part details establish which system has been replaced and what setup is recorded.

  2. 2

    Check the installation

Compatibility, mounting, connections and fault information need assessment. A damaged bracket or communication fault can require attention before setup.

  3. 3

    Carry out required coding

The replacement is configured using the vehicle-specific procedure where needed. The method depends on the fitted system, not simply the badge on the car.

  4. 4

    Complete the remaining checks

Required calibration and function checks establish the result. Keep the work record, including any unresolved fault, with the repair paperwork.

What to send with your enquiry

  • Registration and location: mention relevant modifications or imported vehicles.
  • What was replaced: new or used radar, bracket or wiring; include a part number from paperwork if available.
  • Work already done: fitting, coding, software updates or calibration attempts, with the installer's report.
  • The current problem: exact dashboard warning and any scan findings, including when the fault started.

Unknown details are okay. Do not remove the bumper or dismantle a sensor to find a part number.

More about radar replacement setup

Coding or configuration sets up a module for its vehicle and equipment. Software programming can install or update the software it runs. Calibration establishes the radar's required alignment or reference. Workshop terminology varies, so the repair record should identify the operation actually carried out.

For example, Ford's 2023 ADAS job aid lists both programmable module installation and radar alignment when a new cruise-control module is installed. That illustrates why fitting and coding are not proof of completed alignment; it is not a universal procedure for every make. See front radar calibration for the alignment service.

Sometimes, but compatibility and the manufacturer's procedure have to support it. A used part may have an unsuitable hardware or software version, damage or an unresolved configuration issue. Its connector fitting is not enough.

Do not buy another unit solely because the warning remains. The existing part and findings need assessment first. If a report mentions component protection, VIN configuration or failed programming, include that wording. This service is not a promise to unlock every used module, bypass a restriction or make an incompatible part work.

Different versions can look alike while having different vehicle applications. The correct replacement is determined from the vehicle's specification and current parts information, not appearance alone. A superseded part number also needs checking rather than being assumed wrong or interchangeable.

Bentley's guidance for certain 2017-18 Bentayga vehicles describes incorrect radar variants that can appear to function but are not approved for that application. That is a model-specific example, not a rule that every car needs both radars replaced. Keep the supplier's part details and any compatibility information with the job.

A communication fault needs investigation. Power supply, wiring, connectors, the module itself or compatibility can be involved. Calibration is not a repair for a disconnected or faulty unit, and another coding attempt is not automatically the answer.

A diagnostic scan provides fault information for that investigation. Physical and electrical checks may also be required. Tell us about damaged connectors, theft or collision repairs rather than assuming the new radar is the only relevant change.

No. Clearing a fault code does not complete a required configuration or alignment procedure. The vehicle-specific completion criteria, fault information and function checks matter.

Some procedures involve workshop equipment; others include a guided road calibration. The method depends on the system and vehicle, so a normal drive is not a universal way to finish the job. Do not test emergency braking by driving towards an obstacle. Keep the setup and calibration records, not just a note that the dashboard warning disappeared.

Frequently asked questions

Not necessarily. If the correct configuration is complete and only alignment remains, the calibration service may be the relevant work. Send the garage's report and the remaining fault information so the enquiry does not start from an assumption that all setup needs repeating.

No new module has been fitted in that situation. Removal, refitting or work on its bracket can still trigger calibration or checks under the vehicle's procedure, but it does not automatically mean replacement-module coding is needed. Include exactly what was disturbed.

No. It is the centre rate for setup following front-radar replacement. A radar unit, fitting, bracket or wiring repairs, fault diagnosis and any required calibration are separate work. If the radar is still missing or damaged, say so: a coding appointment alone cannot complete that repair.

The message alone cannot establish whether your car is safe to drive. Do not rely on the affected functions, and follow the handbook's instructions. Collision damage, a red warning or unexpected braking needs appropriate professional assessment before further driving. Raise any travel concern when arranging the work.

Yes. Describe what happened, what was fitted and what the dashboard says. A part number or scan report helps if you already have one, but you do not need to diagnose the car or choose a technical procedure before contacting us.
