MG Front Radar Fault After a Knock or Repair

The radar has been refitted or replaced, but the collision or ACC warning is still there. Before booking another calibration, gather the warning text, repair record and any scan report. They help the centre check what was fitted and what work remains. Front radar calibration, when required, is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT).

  • Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
  • A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemised separately.
  • Certificate to manufacturer tolerances, the same standard dealers issue.

Important

Check all warnings before travelling

A radar message cannot establish that your MG is safe to drive. Do not rely on adaptive cruise or automatic emergency braking while a fault is present. Follow the instructions for every warning in your car's handbook. If braking or steering feels abnormal, there is visible accident damage, or the car tells you to stop, stop safely and seek assistance. Do not test emergency braking yourself.

Choose the next step from what happened

The useful detail is the sequence: when the warning began, what was repaired and whether a replacement part or calibration was already attempted.

While parked safely, use the handbook for your exact model to identify the sensor area and remove external dirt or snow as instructed. Avoid pushing the sensor or adjusting its bracket. A warning that clears does not by itself call for a paid calibration. If it persists or returns, arrange a fault assessment. The blocked-radar guide covers obstruction checks.

Tell the centre whether the original radar stayed on the car, was removed and refitted, or was replaced. Include any bracket or front-end structural work. A refitted panel does not tell the workshop whether the sensor installation is ready for calibration. Send existing scan and calibration reports so the assessment can start from the repair history.

Send the replacement part number, whether it was new or used, and the fitting invoice or job sheet if available. Ask for suitability to be checked before paying for further work. A warning alone cannot establish whether the remaining job is coding, calibration or another repair. We do not promise that calibration will make an unsuitable or faulty replacement work.

Include that work even if you searched for a radar fault. MG assistance messages need to be matched to the fitted equipment. A front-camera issue should not be booked automatically as a radar calibration. The MG calibration page covers the wider service range; send the glass-replacement record with your enquiry.

Keep the exact MG message

An MG warning can name the affected assistance function or the sensor itself. In the MG4 handbook linked below, examples include RADAR Calibration Failed, ACC System Fault, Front Camera Calibration Failed and Forward Collision System Fault. These examples are not a diagnosis or a promise that every MG has the same equipment.

That MG4 manual describes a windscreen camera and a separate front radar. It lists radar or bracket refitting among the calibration triggers. Use the handbook matching your car and have the centre confirm fitment from the registration and repair details, especially when a warning has survived a parts replacement.

If an earlier calibration failed, include the failure report rather than just the final dashboard photo. If it passed and the warning returned, include both the certificate and the new fault report. Those are different starting points for the next assessment.

MG radar calibration and coding prices

Front radar calibration is priced per system. A replacement unit may also require the separate coding line shown below. Parts and any scan are outside those lines; the written quote confirms the work.

Calibration — per system

Service At a service centre
Front camera calibration £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT)
Front radar calibration £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT)
Blind spot radar calibration £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT)
360° / surround camera calibration £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT)
Reversing camera calibration £206.40 inc VAT (£172 +VAT)
Parking sensor calibration £184.80 inc VAT (£154 +VAT)

Coding a replaced part to your vehicle

Service At a service centre
Front radar replaced £232.80 inc VAT (£194 +VAT)
Front camera replaced £229.20 inc VAT (£191 +VAT)
Blind spot radar replaced £226.80 inc VAT (£189 +VAT)
Reversing camera replaced £213.60 inc VAT (£178 +VAT)
  • When your job needs a diagnostic pre-scan, it's £54 inc VAT (£45 +VAT), itemised separately. It reads available fault information; finding the cause may require further investigation. A post-scan is a separate operation.
  • Two or more systems in one visit: the highest-priced system is full price, each additional system is 35% off at a centre. Scans aren't part of the discount. Front camera and front radar together come to £267.30 inc VAT (£222.75 +VAT).
  • Replacement configuration and calibration are different operations. The work required depends on the vehicle and what the installer has already completed. Configuration prices do not include supplying or fitting a replacement part, or an automatic calibration bundle.
  • Unsuccessful work, further investigation or a return visit may carry charges, including at a service centre. The appointment terms and written quote set out the work and applicable charges before booking.
  • Mobile calibration is available for garages and bodyshops with workshop conditions. Ask us.

MG radar fault questions

At a centre, the front radar calibration line is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). It applies when the assessment confirms a calibration job. It is not the price of supplying a radar or repairing damaged hardware. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemised separately.

The coding line for a replacement front radar is £232.80 inc VAT (£194 +VAT). Calibration is another line, normally £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT) before any applicable centre multi-system discount. These are separate services, not a complete parts-and-labour replacement price. The centre confirms which work applies to the fitted unit and itemises the quote; scans are excluded from the multi-system discount.

Send the part number and the repair details for assessment before booking. We cannot confirm a used unit's suitability or condition from the model name alone, and do not guarantee it will work. If it is suitable and calibration is required, the radar calibration line is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). If separate replacement-unit coding is required, its line is £232.80 inc VAT (£194 +VAT). Any applicable centre multi-system discount is reflected in the written quote, with parts and scans itemised separately.

Send both messages, but do not choose the number of calibrations from the number of warnings. The assessment must identify which equipment needs work. Where only front radar calibration is required, its centre price is £162 inc VAT (£135 +VAT). A camera job, damaged part or coding requirement must be identified and quoted separately.

Send the registration, exact dashboard wording, dates of the original fault and repair, and the scan or failed-calibration report. For a replacement radar, add its part number and whether it was new or used. An invoice saying only 'radar fitted' leaves important gaps. The centre can then assess whether the next step is inspection, an equipment-specific procedure or referral for other repair work.
